IN THIS LESSON

Students learn how to interpret different narratives about the same event using words, source type, and context

The case is the Supreme Court’s June 2023 decision blocking a proposed student-debt cancellation program. Students first distinguish opinion writing from politicians’ statements quoted in news reports. Short explanations and discussions then prepare them to identify values and attitudes toward institutions, revise an interpretation with new context, and check one factual claim. Political labels come after the evidence.
