IN THIS LESSON

On Dec. 3, 2024, South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol declared martial law nationwide.

This lesson will take your students inside Verity’s multi-narrative model - the way our editorial team maps contrasting viewpoints around the same event. They’ll begin by exploring what they think a narrative is, then discover how Verity defines and applies the term across real journalism. Using the South Korea Martial Law Crisis as a case study, students will:

  • Read the Verity article to build a factual foundation.

  • Identify and analyze how different outlets and experts framed the event.

  • Compare evidence, tone, and assumptions across major narratives.

  • Design their own narratives to understand bias as a structure, not just an opinion.

  • Reflect on what balanced journalism means in practice.
